Background information
"The volume 'Robert Frank: Books and Films' explores the rich bookmaking history by prominent Swiss-American photographer Robert FRANK. Including spreads from and explanatory texts on the more than thirty books he published with Steidl, along with interviews, essays and documentary photographs, 'Books and Films' is a tribute to his diverse and influential bookmaking practice. Gerhard Steidl began working with him in 1989, when Swiss publisher Walter Keller asked him to print the book 'The Lines of My Hand' by Robert FRANK for his imprint Scalo. After Scalo closed its doors in 2004, Steidl started to publish as well as print the photographic books by Robert FRANK.
