Background information
"Japanese (woodblock print) artist Kiyoshi SAITO was born in Aizu, where little was changing while the rest of the nation was rapidly modernizing. A longing for this kind of tradition, combined with a strong creative impulse, led the young artist to abandon his sign business and devote his life to art. Kiyoshi SAITO worked in printmaking with unconventional tools and was determined to master all the steps of a craft that consisted of draftsmen, carvers and printers.
