Photobooks for Arles 2023

In his photo book 'Ctrl-X', Kai LÖFFELBEIN explores the use of limited resources and documents the path of e-waste from Europe and the USA to the post-apocalyptic Agbogbloshie (Ghana), the e-waste city Guiyu (China) and the backyard workshops of New Delhi

In 'Tierra' Espe PONS invites us to delve deeper into memory, through places that have been marked by the trauma of the Spanish Civil War. The images urge us to examine the surroundings we pass by every day, to see them ias a repository of silent pain.

'Common Dreams' by Kai LÖFFELBEIN reflects China's change and the existing contrasts. It critically examines its social and economic transformation with a focus on the lives of migrant workers who have to live in the outskirts of the large metropolises.

The photographic volume 'At the Beach' by Tod PAPAGEORGE is the result of a long-term project that began in 1975 and ended in 1988. In 1978 he returned to Los Angeles to expand the series he had begun three years earlier, adding images in 1981 and 1988.

The photographic volume 'Inexplicata Volantes' by Swiss photographer Luciano RIGOLINI contains photographs found in a ufology center. Reproduced without any manipulation, the images serve the need to explore their poetic power.

Using old paintings, newspaper clippings, letters & photographs, this book, 'Dear Franklin' by Kurt TONG, tells a fictional love story and immerses the reader in the history of the Chinese diaspora, from the fall of the Middle Kingdom in 1912 to the 1950s

'Sonne, Meer und nackte Menschen' (The Nudist Films of Swiss Werner Kunz) presents the first detailed account of the forgotten film pioneer. Numerous stills illustrate the works and visual material from the private archive the extensively researched book.
