"Since the revolution in 1959, the clocks in Cuba have changed a little differently.
Due to the trade restrictions and lack of investment, a world from past decades was preserved, but unfortunately it could only be maintained poorly. The continuous decay shows side by side beside the glitter of former splendor.
This morbid beauty disappears slowly, because a change of Cuba is foreseeable since some years.
Michael ZEGERS conceived his photo book 'Fin de Siglo' as a walk through Havana, without stylistically or thematically defining one of the classic genres of photography. Double-sided panoramic images of the city are contrasted in the book with fragmentary views of facades, everyday objects, symbols and signs. Both the image selection and the sequence of images created a complex visual narrative with a personal view. " (freely translated publisher's note, © Edition Bildperlen, 2018)
