Background information

"The book and the exhibition 'Untold Stories' at the Museum Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf - the first work show curated by Peter LINDBERGH himself - developed into heartfelt projects over the course of two years of preparation, which the photographer only completed shortly before his death. 'Untold Stories' is Peter LINDBERGH's most personal statement on his work. He always put people in the foreground, revolutionizing the visual language of fashion photography. His photos turned supermodels not only into icons, but above all into women, pushing the boundary between fashion photography and contemporary art. 'The exhibition gave me the opportunity to think more extensively about my images and in a context other than fashion,' says Peter LINDBERGH in conversation. He drew inspiration from dance theater, from film, especially Fritz Lang's film 'Metropolis', but equally from the industrial wastelands of his hometown Duisburg. In 'Untold Stories' Peter LINDBERGH, as he says, encountered his photos in a completely new way.

In the photo volume 'Untold Stories', photos by Peter LINDBERGH from the early 1980s to the present are shown, which once again change the view of his extensive oeuvre and make clear his special idea of fashion photography. We encounter famous Peter LINDBERGH shots, many previously unpublished images as well as commissioned works for magazines such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, W, Interview, Rolling Stone or Wall Street Journal. The photo book in XL format shows more than 150 photographs - most of them in Lindbergh's typical black and white. Nocturnal street scenes and dramatic settings at the harbor or in factory ruins prove his inimitable talent as a storyteller. In addition, we experience private, almost intimate moments with personalities who had a close relationship with the photographer over many years:  Nicole Kidman, Uma Thurman, Robin Wright, Jessica Chastain, Jeanne Moreau, Naomi Campbell, Charlotte Rampling and others.
The whole is rounded off by an extensive conversation between Peter LINDBERGH and Kunstpalast director Felix Krämer, as well as a tribute by Wim WENDERS to his friend Peter LINDBERGH.
