Background information
"The poetry of forms: the visual world of Michael Kenna. Michael KENNA is one of the most important contemporary photographers. In addition to his internationally renowned landscape photographs, he continues to photograph a wide variety of buildings in cities or in the countryside, as well as industrial plants, bridges and almost architectural scenes in nature. What is special about these photographs is his artistic view of architecture. In contrast to purely documentary architectural photography, his works often appear mysterious, mystical, futuristic or even as if from a bygone era. His atmospheric works are distinguished above all by long exposures, unusual perspectives, strong contrasts and dramatic lighting moods.
Content
In the out-of-print photo volume 'Beyond Architecture', Yvonne Meyer-Lohr compiles Michael KENNA's architectural photographs in an unusual, artistically intuitive and therefore completely new composition. She places his illustrated basic themes of architecture such as space, form and structure in a new context. 'Beyond Architecture' thus expands the view of the architectural object and even beyond that to sources of inspiration and the poetry of form." (© Prestel Verlag, 2019)
