About German photographer Max BAUMANN (b.1961, in Meissen)

After training as a skilled construction worker (1981/82), Max BAUMANN studied architecture at the TU Dresden from 1983 to 1984 and then furniture and interior design at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Applied Sciences in Halle/Saale. From 1984 to 1988 he worked in various professions, including as a photo laboratory assistant. From 1988 to 1994 he studied photography at the Academy of Visual Arts (HGB) in Leipzig with Peter Pachnicke and as a master student with Timm RAUTERT. In 1992 he was also with Bernd BECHER at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. In 1997 he was awarded the Wüstenrot Foundation's Young Talent Prize for Documentary Photography. Max BAUMANN lives as a freelance artist in Schortewitz near Dessau.
