This version of the book 'EIN-HEIT' (U-NI-TY) is a re-edit. Originally published in 1996, Michael SCHMIDT investigated the question of 'unity', tracing the symbolism & iconography of political systems, their propaganda & the images of people they project.

From its title to its formal arrangement of language, 'Dein Kampf' suggests a commentary on our cyclical anxieties about ideology. Anxiety is implicit in his photographs and Berlin - a city in which several ideologies collided - is their natural backdrop.

The Anti-War book 'Kriegsfibel' (War primer) by Bertolt Brecht and Ruth Berlau processes press photos from the Second World War. Images of machines and gruesome scenes were given new captions, socialist-realist epigrams to give the scenes a primal meaning

The b/w images by Sibylle BERGEMANN collected in her out-of-print photo book 'Fenster' do not follow any overarching plan, but are an expression of subjective perception. Each with its details captured window says something about the people they belong to

For his volume 'Wall and Peace', Kai WIEDENHÖFER has documented walls and barrier fences all over the world: in Berlin, Belfast, Mexico, Ceuta & Melilla, in Baghdad and the wall on the border line with the West Bank, with the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Egypt.

'Jenny, Jenny' is not documentary: ZIELONY avoids the journalistic impetus for certainty & truth. To him, the authenticity of the subject is as relevant as the question of the objectivity of the documentary image: both are never free of dramatic elements.

Out-of-print volume 'Berlin 1978-1987' by Boris BECKER shows early works of the photographer of the Düsseldorf Photo School, taken on 35mm and medium format. In the course of history and the change of our perception, these have gained in importance.

After projects drawing from archives, Arwed MESSMER turns for 'Clearing the Dephts' to his own archive, which contains many problematic aspects of German history. Previously unpublished images are re-edited and series are set in relation to each other.
