Background information

The Hasselblad Award is an international photography prize, awarded for the first time in 1980. It has been presented annually since then, with the exception of the year of Erna Hasselblad’s death 1983. This book, 'Hasselblad Award. Celebrating Photography', celebrates the fortieth anniversary of the Hasselblad Award – the world’s most prestigious photography prize – and the influential work of all its winners to date. Their photography reveals a broad spectrum of engagement with the world, from the personal and intimate to the scientific and political, from the street to the studio, from the cinematic, poetic and surreal to the curious, engaged and caring. They are artists, innovators, activists and legends who have shaped the modern history of photography.

'Hasselblad Award. Celebrating Photography' contains all winners since 1980 until 2019. Beginning with Robert ADAMS until Alfredo JAAR (2020). Foreword is written by Sir Elton John. Essays by Duncan Forbes, Nina Strand, Louise Wolthers and Dragana Vujanović Östlind.
