About Slovenian photographer, Matjaz TANCIC (b.1982)

Matjaž TANCIC is a Slovenian lens-based artist of the younger generation, who lives and creates between Beijing and Ljubljana. He began his path as a photojournalist for Mladina magazine. He's working mainly on documentary and independent projects between China and Slovenia. His work explores the lines between documentary, portrait and art photography to engage with social and cultural issues. He likes to experiment within the photographic medium and is well  known for his 3D stereography projects. Matjaz TANCIC holds a BA in photography from the University of the Arts, London.

The photo object '3DPRK' by Matjaz TANCIC presents an extensive collection of North Korean people, photographed in stereo, focusing on common people: those who work in the fields and in the cooperatives, factories and steel mills throughout the country.

Matjaž TANCIC has been awarded several prizes, among them first prize at the Sony World Photography Organization contest in the 3D category, three separate first prizes at Slovenia Press Photo awards, finalist at the Google Photography Prize and honorable mentions at IPA, Px3 and Emzin – Slovenian Photography of the Year.Awards.
