"Shovel-eye. My turn. Like a digger carving the softness beneath his feet, I will dig through the heritage albums. The cropped images would pile up on the sides of the pit as I go deep down in the dark cave of the family. That very cave which echoes the hollow volume of the stick that the ancestors raised upon their heads with the kick of that sweet primordial fear. That gesture of raising the stick high, must be hidden somewhere around. I am the digger now; my eyes, shovel-eye." (Özgür ATLAGAN)
About the photographer, Özgür ATLAGAN (*1984):
"I got MA in visual arts in Sabancı University. I have been producing in the field of visual arts and worked with mediums of video and installation.
Since my graduation I mostly produced collectively with different artists and especially as a member of the artist collective KABA HAT.
My relation with photography was mostly limited to few projects based on scaning and enlarging tourist postcards or construction catalogues. Throughout these VA years I was carrying a point and shoot camera with me, but almost never printed or used the photographes that I took. And now I wish to look at properly what the accumulated images tells me. As I want to move towards subjects that are harder to articulate and distance myself from the conceptuality and the institutional emphasis of the visual arts I wish to begin experimenting more with photography and the printed medium."
