Background information, content
The slim publication 'The Disappeared' by Verónica FIEIRAS contains portraits of people who disappeared in Argentina. It is a political volume that aims to keep alive the memory of these people. At the same time, the book project was designed to make the portraits disappear more and more with each edition. And even though there have been 'only' three editions in total, the idea was understandable. The photo volume, printed on thin paper, was also more of an inexpensive photo book item.
Book Review
"This is an emotional book that deals with the disappearance of memory and insists on restoring it. It is a power struggle between the passage of time and the devastating effects this brings. While images retain their graphic memory, symbolically they gradually dissolve and distance themselves from their original presence while creating a transparency that can be added to other faces, other forms of visual memory that create a new image. In this case, images represent the face of horror, but above all the face of an immense pain and the silence of a sick silent society. In any case, 'The Disappeared' is a photobook that defines the identity of absence not only through images, but also in words through anonymous and blurred traces of a previous presence and thus of a part of life."
