Background information
"In 2018, Israel celebrated the 70th anniversary of the founding of its state. At the same time, the Palestinians commemorated the 70th anniversary of the Nakba (Arabic: catastrophe, disaster), the expulsion from their ancestral settlement area. The political and social situation in today's Israel, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and the Golan has remained unresolved for seven decades.
Meinrad SCHADE photographed this series under the title 'Unresolved' Meinrad SCHADE photographed his series in Israel and Palestine. It is the continuation of his long-term project 'War without War', which has been documenting landscapes and people in the grip of conflicts in a mosaic-like manner since 2003.
Content
In his photo essay 'Unresolved' Meinrad SCHADE examines how the conflict also shows itself symbolically in everyday life. Captions in German, English, Hebrew and Arabic illuminate historical and current backgrounds. The different reading directions of German and English, respectively, and of Hebrew and Arabic, respectively, make the book readable from two sides." (© Scheidegger & Spiess, 2018)
