Background information
"The photo volume 'Nein, Onkel: Snapshots From Another Front 1938-1945' presents a photographic survey of another, rarely seen side of life in the Nazi Third Reich. These highly personal photographs come from the extensive collections of the Archive of Modern Conflict (IRL) and were compiled from private albums, which in turn had been compiled by ordinary soldiers who had taken part in the Second World War.Content
The out-of-print photo volume 'Nein, Onkel: Snapshots From Another Front 1938-1945' contains reproductions of 347 previously unpublished snapshots - some in color - depicting the fun-loving, sexually inappropriate and work-shy elements of the German military machine, as well as the commonly accepted view of 'bad men in ankle boots'. The photographs do not show bloody battles, but the fun of those caught enjoying 40 winks, a country dance or a roll in the hay rather than fighting."
