Background information, content
"The people on whom Sebastian MÖLLEKEN focuses his photographic eye usually live under special conditions, in special places. The photographer is interested in the deep bond that exists between people and landscape. His photographs in the out-of-print photo book 'Tagebau' shift the sensation of time and size; they show how the landscape shapes the people who live in it - at the same time, the people shape the landscape. However, to show only the old world sacrificed for open pit mining would have been too simplistic for the photographer. Therefore, Sebastian MÖLLEKEN also shows the places that were created as alternative quarters for humans and animals." (slightly modified publisher's text, © Kettler Verlag, 2012)
