Background information
'Hard Theory' is the second self-published book of photographs by photographer, Thomas SING, after 'Until I break'.
Statement by the photographer, Thomas SING
"3 years after 'Until I Break' and its huge success, I am back on the photo book front with a new publication. This time all photos are mine but the concept and texts have been developed and written with Alexandra Keiner and Chiara Padovan. So there is both continuity and evolution from the first to the second publication.
In a year that has been challenging for everyone, we hope this little work will bring you a little joy. We can't wait to celebrate with you in person as soon as it will be possible again." (© Thomas SING)
"Do you too, sometimes, stare with big open eyes into the sun?
HARD THEORY: To look beyond things, or at least at their border.
HARD THEORY: To break experience open and attempt to illustrate the unspeakable.
HARD THEORY: To contrast the regime of 'hard facts' with the magic of looking and seeing.
HARD THEORY: Sensing Beauty that is still unmanifested, and may forever be.
HARD THEORY: Seeing how everything depends on this Beauty.
HARD THEORY: Getting lost in this truth completely.
Theoría, in its ancient sense: a beginning." (© Thomas SING, 2020)
