Background information
"The artist books of the painter Gerhard RICHTER produced since 1966 are little known,. They are books in the production of which the publisher usually limits his cooperation to technical assistance. Gerhard RICHTER was early engaged in this medium, as shown by the example of 'Comic Strip' (1962) - a fantastic picture-text narrative, but which was published only in 2014. In the following 50 years, great artist books were created with 'Eis', 'Halifax' as well as 'Sils'. 'War Cut' from 2004 was a response to the U.S.'s fatal third Gulf War and the beginning of a series of artist books published in rapid succession. They form a significant group of his late work. The definitive reference work with more than 700 illustrations, this volume is also an easy-to-read, highly informative monograph on the inventive artist's books of Gerhard RICHTER.
