The two Spaniards Carlos SPOTTORNO and Guillermo Abril have developed an independent form for their joint work, which quickly made them internationally known. They move at the interface between journalism, literature and photographic art. In 2016 they published a sensational report on the European external border as a graphic novel with the title 'The Rift'. This picture story combines a subjective eyewitness account with researched facts and the extraordinary form of illustrative photography. As part of INN SITU, the duo SPOTTORNO / Abril created a report in words and pictures about the border between Austria and Italy, North Tyrol and South Tyrol. A border that for the two southern Europeans today is an example of successful coexistence in the middle of the European Union, despite its origins as a result of the First World War and its history of conflict.
As for 'Der Riss', 'Die Verwerfung - The Fault Line' is designed as a colored graphic novel in leporello format. The ninty-page publication was simply unfolded for the exhibition in the BTV Innsbruck and reached an impressive length of eleven meters.
