Background information
"The key themes of Jakob TUGGENER, which run through his entire oeuvre, are factory work, simple country life and - in contrast - the glamorous social events of high society. At the same time, he was fascinated by streets, harbors and ships, car races and air shows. With the help of his camera, he sought to depict all facets of modern life - a world between dark factory halls and glittering dance halls. During the 1930s, he compiled ready-to-print book dummies dealing with all these themes, i.e. bound series of images consisting of up to 150 full or double-page original prints, none of which were published during his lifetime - with the exception of the 1943 title 'Factory', his groundbreaking 'pictorial epic of technology' (new edition 2011), which laid the foundation for his international fame. Many of his motifs are also the focus of his short films, whose genre oscillates somewhere between documentary and fantasy.Content
The insemination work by Jakob TUGGENER, 'Books and Films', which comes in a wooden box, brings together facsimile editions of the first twelve original book dummies from the years 1936 to 1982 as well as a selection of his 16 mm short films on DVD. All films are black and white and without text - just as the artist always wanted. This is the first time Jakob TUGGENER's extensive oeuvre has been presented to a wide audience."
