In these images from the books selected (only a fraction of those in existence), the city of skyscrapers is captured from construction thereof in the 1930s to the destruction of the World Trade Center in 2001, alongside the urban life of the New Yorkers themselves, recorded in a model style of street photography.
Included photographers are:
Cecil BEATON, Berenice ABBOTT, WEEGEE, Henri CARTIER-BRESSON; J.J. LANGUEPIN, Fred STEIN, Roy DECARAVA, William KLEIN, Jean-Pierre DARNAT, Ernst HAAS, Gjon MILI, Roger PARRY, Auro ROELLI, Susanne SZASZ, Kees SCHERER, Victor LAREDO, Sam FALK, Helen LEVITT, Jan YOORS, Evelyn HOFER, Walker EVANS, Anthony AVILES, Don CHARLES, Eva FUKOVA, Milon NOVOTNY, Marie SECHTLOVA, Oriol MASPONS, Julio UBINA, Karol KALLAY, Ugo MULAS, Hasse PERSSON, Danny LYON, Bruce DAVIDSON, Lörinczy GYÖRGY, Fernano ARABAL, Daido MORIYAMA, Jon NAAR, André KERTÉSZ, Aaron SISKIND, Raymond DEPARDON, Robert RAUSCHENBERG, Keizo KITAJIMA, Juan FRESÁN, Claudio EDINGER, Lenke ROTHMAN, Tana ROSS, Nobuo NAKAMURA, Ken SCHLES, Arno FISCHER, Ryan WEIDEMAN, Bruce GILDEN, Nobuyoshi ARAKI, Alice Rose GEORGE, Gilles PERESS, Michael SHULAN, Charles TRAUB, Thomas ROMA, Werner BISCHOF and Édouard BOUBAT.
