Background information
"The photo book 'Tito' by Dutch photographer Friso KEURIS is about a country that used to be called Yugoslavia and was ruled by Josip Broz 'Tito'. Since the 1950s, Tito spent summers on Brijuni, a small archipelago off the west coast of Croatia's Istrian region. His former summer residence symbolizes the beginning and end of the Yugoslav dream Tito so firmly believed in. Access to his private living quarters, which are still kept in order day after day, is strictly closed to the public.
Content
In addition to exterior and interior photographs of his summer residence taken in 2016, Friso KEURIS' book 'Tito' also includes images from the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, which tried war crimes committed during the civil war from 1991 to 2000. The Dutch photographer documented the staff and interiors of the Tribunal between 2001 and 2017. In 2016, he received permission to shoot the idyllic and utopian world of Brijuni."
