"Tom HUNTER takes a look behind London’s façades and shows us how life there really is. What is perhaps his best-known photograph is of a young woman in a setting that alludes to Vermeer’s 'Girl Reading a Letter at an Open Window'. However, his photo portrays a 'Woman Reading a Possession Order' - a neighbor from the squatter’s scene who has just received an eviction notice. The work attracted so such attention from the media that the eviction ultimately never took place. With his eye for the unusual and exotic in everyday life, Tom HUNTER succeeds in capturing striking, remarkable snapshots of life in Great Britain today." In the photo book 'The Way Home' Tom HUNTER tells stories. With his eye for the unusual and exotic in everyday life, he succeeds in taking impressive and surprising snapshots of the Great Britain of today. The volume is divided into sections: after an introduction (in English) written by Tom HUNTER, the book begins with black and white photographs from the series 'Brick Lane' (1990/91). After that the photographs change to color, the third series, 'The Ghetto', is only two years younger and already photographed in color. Among the series are 'Travellers' (1996-98), some already published in book form, 'Persons Unknown' (1997, with one of his most famous photographs, 'Woman Reading a Possession Order'), 'Life and Death in Hackney' (1999-2001), and 'Living in Hell and Other stories' (2003/04). The volume concludes with a text by Geoff Dyer ('Endlands'), a list of the works included in the book, and biographical data.
