"Since 2009, Anatoliy BABIYCHUK, a photographer originally from Ukraine and now living in Vienna, has regularly taken photographs during his visits to Horaivka, a small village in central Ukraine. The Ukrainian photographer's interest is focused on the inhabitants in their simple everyday life, which takes place in the archaic structure of village life, in the kindergarten, the elementary school, a post office, two small stores, a village club and a first aid station. But also the private, the people in their homes, the observation of their traditional rituals and the seemingly contemplative work in the vast fields become, through the concentrated gaze of the photographer, a prototypical sociogram of a seemingly forgotten stretch of land on the map of Europe. Anatoliy BABIYCHUK derives his motivation not from the search for sensation, but from his interest in his homeland, in getting to know new people, their social environment and their ways of life."
