Background information
This book, 'Gaudi, Impresiones Intimas', is a poem - a poem about the art of printing photographs on paper and binding them as a book and of course a poem about Antoni Gaudí, the Catalan master builder - perhaps the most beautiful poem in book form about him to date. Unfortunately, poems are difficult to explain - nevertheless, here is an attempt in brief: Aitor ORTÍZ has developed this book against all reason, but with the obsession and dedication necessary for great art over several years together with friends in spirit. You have to see it, feel it, smell it, read it carefully page by page. It is the successful attempt to confront the creative, artistic genius of the Catalan master builder Antoni Gaudí (1852 - 1926) with a congenial media counterpart: through artistic interpretation with the means of photography, poetry, book design, and the art of printing. The result is a publication that is biblical in the truest sense of the word, impressive in its minimalism, and precisely conceived and realized down to the last detail.
Content
The book, 'Gaudi, Impresiones Intimas', presents all 126 images of the Gaudí project by Aitor ORTÍZ, which was completed in 2018. The pictures were taken from the buildings Casa Milá, Sagrada Familia (and the model workshop), Casa Batlló, Parc Güell, Torre Bellesguard, Palau Güell, Casa Vicens, Casa Calvet, the Güell pavilions and the crypt of the Güell colony.
The originals printed on aluminum plates are reproduced in perfect gray balance. The low opacity of the thin bible printing paper and the blank pages are an elementary part of the design concept. The poems and texts of the Basque filmmaker and writer Oskar Alegria add an associative level". (slightly adapted text by the publisher, © Hartmann Projects, 2020)
