Background information
"Leipzig Central Station was an unfulfilled promise of worldliness in the 1970s. The trains squealed heartbreakingly, the loudspeaker announcements faded into the nirvana of the huge station hall. It was a simple, noisy, mechanical place. Travelers and staff had settled into the various spaces of arrivals and departures. In the Mitropa, where the dishes had to be cleared by oneself, all social classes gathered - for 24 hours. Time does not seem to advance in the 80 or so black-and-white photographs by Helga PARIS. You rarely see anyone hurrying after a train. There are no clocks. Everyone is waiting: the toilet attendant for the end of her shift, the lottery saleswoman for the next fortune seeker, the pensioner for her beer.
