Background information, content
"The photo volume 'Yearbook' shows a different side of the photographer Ulrich WÜST. In 'Yearbook', pictures from more than three decades are collected in a sequence organized by year. Ulrich WÜST took them in different places, in Berlin, in German cities and while traveling, mostly in Europe.
In contrast to his thematic stories, something very personal, private and atmospheric comes to the fore here. [...] His world seems to be surrounded by a melancholy veil, but it does not conceal anything; instead, paradoxically, it reveals an incomparable precision of vision.[...]
The special thing about the photographs by Ulrich WÜST is that, for all their precision and intelligent play with the expressiveness of everyday forms, they refrain from making the viewer an accomplice. They are not intended to awaken our understanding of the 'poetry of the remote', nor do they call on anyone to intervene to correct them. Nor do they play tricks on the romanticism of the ephemeral. They are no good for improving the world, they are simply there, as self-evident, sometimes ironic, sometimes funny, often depressingly succinct and sometimes full of sadness, as the things they show. His pictures, in all their subjective moods, show what could be true about reality, if we still want to believe it at all." (Verlag für Moderne Kunst Nuremberg, 2009)
