Background information
"During numerous trips to the West African regions of Benin and Togo, the Finnish photographer Perttu SAKSA discovered stalls on almost every street corner selling 'Kpayo' - cheap petrol made from crude oil stolen from the drilling fields of multinational corporations. In the photo book 'Dark Atlas' he examines the issue of energy as a structural element of our society, making oil and fuel concrete and tangible, as well as the problems caused by our dependence on them.
Content
This photo book by Perttu SAKSA includes the 'Dark Atlas' series; documentary images are combined with still lifes and abstract photographs." (slightly adapted text, © Kehrer Verlag, 2022)
