Personal statement by Daido MORIYAMA
"Since last summer, I have been to Yokohama frequently for some reason. I had a good time in the city, where I took many photos when I was young after being away for so many years. When I started thinking of shooting Yokohama I received an offer to publish a photo book, and immediately decided to make a book of photos of Yokohama. Now I'm even happier because I could make two volumes with these Yokohama photos." (© Daido MORIYAMA)Content
This photo book, 'Akai Kutsu Vol.1' / (赤い靴 上 ) by Daido MORIYAMA is a slim, thread-bound publication of mostly double-page black and white photographs of the Japanese metropolis of Yokohama. On view are cityscapes with and without people, as well as his beloved shop window photographs. In terms of format, the volume is comparable to the Japanese photographer's 'Records', but unlike these, both 'Akai Kutsu' volumes are much quieter.
