Background information, content
The black-and-white photographs in the out-of-print photography book 'Sahraouis. Existences-Résistances' by Rogério FERRARI are the result of a month and a half of living together in the Sahara refugee camps in Tindouf in Algeria and in the liberated area of Tifariti. The appealing aesthetics of these images should not obscure the fact that there really should be no such thing as the Sahraoui refugee camp. However, life goes on and is rebuilt every day. Sahrawi people are transforming the refugee camp into small towns where daily life is clothed in the habit of normality and where the inhabitants cultivate values that have become rare: Respect and solidarity towards one's neighbor.'Existences-Résistances' is the name of a collection of photobooks dedicated to this struggling humanity. The collective project was realized in collaboration with the bookstore Envie de Lire in Ivry." " (publisher's free translated text, © Clandestin, 2010)
