About Finnish photographer Sari SOININEN (b.1991)

Sari SOININEN holds an MA in photography from University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol (2021), BA from Lahti Institute of Design (2014), and she carried out exchange studies in Edinburgh College of Art (2013). After completing her BA degree she began a career in graphic design, event photography and animation. In 2019 she decided to pursue fine art photography and started her masters. She draws on her preoccupation with philosophy and mysticism in her colorful photographic work. In her early twenties, the Finnish photographer experimented excessively with LSD and subsequently experienced an extended psychotic episode. This had serious consequences for her life, but also changed her perception of the world and understanding of reality. Her interest is in providing the viewer with alternative ways of seeing the world and reality around them. She uses long shutter speed, colour gels and projection to build dreamlike alternate realities within the moment. Sari SOININEN has published three photo volumes to date.
