"After the photo volumes 'The Potemkin Village' and 'Closed Cities' the photo book 'The Polar Silk Road' is the publication of Gregor SAILER. Temperatures up to 55 degrees Celsius below zero, military exclusion zones, elaborate research and the unpredictability of the Arctic made this project with the analog view camera an enormous challenge. The photo series 'The Polar Silk Road' deals with the economic use of the Arctic regions and the territorial claims of the respective riparian states. The associated consequences are geopolitical tensions as well as the expansion of military structures and research stations, which Sailer highlights in his project. The Austrian photographer's work has already been exhibited in national and international museums and festivals and won prestigious awards, such as the DAM Architectural Book Award.
