Statement of the photographer, Manuel RIVERA-ORTIZ
"In 2002, I embarked on a very personal quest to Cuba. I wanted to remember my childhood in Puerto Rico. And I knew that in Cuba time had stood still in many ways. (...) I found my Puerto Rico in western Havana, on the tobacco farms near Pinar del Rio, or to the east in Playa Girón on the Bay of Pigs, and on toward Cienfuegos and Trinidad and Camagüey! And new friends - I found a unique community, foreign to the stranger, but almost like family to me." (© Manuel RIVERA-ORTIZ)
