About the Czech photographer Jaroslav PONCAR (b.1945, in Prague)

Jaroslav PONCAR studied atomic physics from 1963 to 1966 at the Technical University in Prague and then until 1971 theoretical physics at RWTH Aachen University. After working as a freelance photographer for DPA in Africa and the Middle East in the early 1970s, from 1974 onwards he mainly traveled to the Himalayas, Tibet, India and Cambodia, specializing in panoramic photography from 1976 onwards.

For his out-of-print photo volume 'Himalayas. Where Gods and Man meet', Jaroslav PONCAR has been to the Himalayas with his old Russian FT-2 panorama camera, making amazing pictures of an enormous landscapeof the Himalayan Mountains and especially Tibet.
