Background information
"'Why Exhibit? Positions on Exhibiting Photographies' offers a spectrum of views on how the myriad ways in which photographs are exhibited can enhance our understanding of how images function today and what they do to us when we interact with them. In the digital age, photography is best described by adjectives that represent a medium in constant flux: fluid, flexible, unstable. As a result, there is no primary format for viewing photographs. Yet for all the medium's formats, modes, and approaches, it is important to question how we see photographic images-and to ask why, by whom, and for what purposes the images were made in the first place.
