About Swiss-French photographer, Sabine WEISS (1924-2021)

Sabine WEISS is one of the most important representatives of humanistic photography of the 20th century. From 1942 to 1945 she completed an apprenticeship as a photographer in the studio of the Geneva photographer Paul BOISSONNAS. She then went to Paris and assisted the German fashion photographer Willy MAYWALD. From 1949 she worked as a freelance photographer. Her fashion, portrait and reportage photographs were published in Esquire, Vogue, Paris Match, Life and Time, among others. Her photographs of children, tramps, passers-by, musicians and lovers were taken in the streets of Paris in the style of Humanist photography. In 1952, at the invitation of Robert DOISNEAU, she joined the Rapho agency. In 1955 she participated in the exhibition 'The Family of Man' by Edward Steichen. She photographed primarily with a Rolleiflex and a Leica. Sabine Weiss passed away in her home in Paris, on December 28, 2021.
