About Spanish photographer, Leopoldo POMÉS (1931-2109)

Leopoldo POMÉS CAMELLO was a photographer and publicist. He finished his elementary school and started secondary school in his hometown. He then became interested in photography and learned in a self-taught way. In 1955 he made his first exhibition at the Galeries Laietanes in Barcelona. This exhibition was well received by the members of the Dau al Set artist collective who had posed for some of these portraits. His work became nationally known after his participation in the 1958 Yearbook of Spanish Photography, along with other avant-garde photographers of the time. Then Pomés decided to go into audiovisual production in advertising. He entered the PR agency Pentagono, at that time one of the most famous local agencies for cinema and advertising. In 1961 he founded 'Studio Pomés' with Karin Leiz, which made him famous as a commercial photographer. He also ran the advertising agency Tiempo and was advertising director of the Freixenet Group brand and directed many of its commercials. He also developed spots for other brands. He received his first advertising awards at the Venice Biennale and the Cannes Festival. In 2018 he received the National Photography Prize of Spain.
