About the Chinese-Dutch photographer, Xiaoxiao XU

Xiaoxiao XU was born in a city in southeast China and emigrated to the Netherlands when she was 14. Spending half of her life in the Netherlands changed her view of China. Her identity can no longer be easily defined; she is both an insider and an outsider. Photography is the medium in which she can best express this feeling. By photographing places, people and objects that evoke confusing and alienating feelings, she manages to find a balance between her origins and her present life.
Xiaoxiao XU graduated Cum Laude from the photo academy in Amsterdam. Then she worked on personal projects. In 2013 she published the book 'Love Doll Factory' in collaboration with Marco VAN DUYVENDIJK. In 2014 followed her first personal photo book 'The Way to the Golden Mountain' about her hometown in China. In 2015, she published her second book 'The Sound of Stars' after an artist-in-residence program in Ravenna, Italy. To date, she has published a total of five photography volumes.
