About the American photographer, Henry WESSEL (1942-2018)

Henry WESSEL is considered to be one of the most important representatives of the 'New Topographic Movement' in photography. He holds a BA in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University and a Masters of Arts in Photography from the State University of New York. In 1969 Wessel moved to Los Angeles. Here he turned primarily to the landscape that has been changed by man. In 1975 he took part in the 'New Topographics: Photographs of the Man-Altered Landscape' exhibition with Robert ADAMS, Lewis BALTZ, Bernd & Hilla BECHER, Stephen SHORE, which is not only the name for a new photographic movement, but also a turning point in American landscape photography. In other of his groups of works he devoted himself to night shots, architectural documentations and the city of Las Vegas.
