About the German graphic designer, Klaus STAECK (b.1938)

Klaus STAECK grew up in the industrial town of Bitterfeld. In 1956, immediately after graduating from high school, he moved to Heidelberg. In 1962 he organized his first political demonstration, the subject was the Spiegel affair. In 1965 he founded the producer publishing house 'Edition Tangente' (today: 'Edition Staeck'), which since the late 1960s has published multiples by international artists (including Joseph BEUYS). Since the early 1970s he has been active as a graphic artist in political satire, in the tradition of John HEARTFIELD. His main work to date includes about 300 posters, most of which consist of photomontages. Especially in the 1970s and 1980s, his graphics were so popular that he was able to live off the proceeds of postcard sales. Participated in the Documenta exhibitions 5 to 8. In 1971 he was a guest lecturer at the Gesamthochschule Kassel, and in 1986 at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. In 1990 he joined the Berlin Academy of Arts (formerly the Academy of Arts of the GDR). Through the unification of the two Berlin academies, he became a member of the joint Academy of Arts. in 1993. Since 2015 Klaus STAECK is its honorary president.

Reissue of the original volume from 1971. 'Pornography' by Klaus STAECK is an irritating panopticon of everyday violence, a total work of art, offensive in many senses of the word and could hardly be more topical as an artist's manifesto against violence.
