About the Japanese photographer, Hajime SAWATARI (沢渡 朔, b.1940, in Tokyo)

Hajime SAWATARI is known for his fashion and advertising photography as well as his nudes of girls and women. He earned his degree from Nihon University's College of Art with a major in photography and began to publish his works in photography magazines and elsewhere while still enrolled at at the Department of Photography, College of Art, Nihon University. After working for Nippon Design Center, he became a freelance photographer in 1966. Whilst working mailnly as a fashion photographer, he has been publishing his works in numerous magazines such as Camera Mainichi. He produced a large number of masterful works including 'Alice', inspired by Alice in Wonderland - His book Alice, an interpretation of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, is controversial for its full-frontal nudity of a prepubescent girl -, and 'Nadia', which contains photos of an Italian fashion model (both published in 1973), and has since been continously operating in the front lines of his field. His photographs have been exhibited by many institutions including Ginza Wacoal Hall and the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.
