About Bulgarian photographer Eugenia MAXIMOVA
Eugenia
MAXIMOVA is a multiple award winning photographer, photojournalist and
visual artist, based in Vienna. She holds a master's degree in
journalism- and communication studies from The University of Vienna. Her
artistic practice is informed by a critical reflection on and an
engagement with socio-political contexts. Inspired by her childhood in
Bulgaria, she explores issues of identity and the everyday life in
post-communist cultures, but also of consumption and transience. Eugenia
uses an analogue medium-format camera and kindles a passion for colours
and clear image compositions while making sure to celebrate life. Her
work has been shown in solo exhibitions in a large number of countries.
As freelance photographer, her list of clients includes: GEO, National
Geographic, Economist, Die Zeit, Moscow News, The Guardian, The
Washington Post, Corriere della Sera and many more. She has also given
talks and has taught several workshops on photography. She has published several books and was featured among the 100 best photobooks in 'How We See: Photobooks By Women' (2018).
