About the Belgian photographer, Anton KUSTERS (b.1974)

Anton KUSTERS obtained a master's degree in Political Science and studied photography in Leuven as well as in Hasselt. His 'Yakuza' series from 2011 is well acclaimed. From 2012 to 2017 he created 'The Blue Skies Project' across different media and platforms. This project was installed at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC in 2019. In 2019, he was nominated for the Prix Pictet, and he was a finalist for the 2020 Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize. Using an increasingly abstracted and deconstructed representation, he pushes for an ongoing influence of the medium on the work itself. His focus lies on investigating ways of seeing, the mechanisms of memory and remembrance, and the significance of viewer placement and subject-position. Anton KUSTERS lives and works in Belgium and Japan (Tokyo).
