About the Japanese photographer, Seiichi FURUYA (古屋 誠, *1950 in Izu, Shizuoka Prefecture)

The Japanese photographer Seiichi FURUYA lives in Graz and is co-founder of the association Camera Austria. He studied architecture and then two years of photography at the Tokyo College of Photography. In 1973 he dropped out of his studies and left Japan to travel. In Austria he met his future wife, who became the main subject of his photographic work until her suicide in 1985. From 1984 to 1987 the family lived first in Dresden, then in East Berlin, where he worked as a translator. Many of his works were published in the context of book projects (e.g. five volumes of 'Mémoires').
