About German photographer Dirk REINARTZ (1947-2004)

Dirk REINARTZ studied photography at the Folkwangschule in Essen. From 1971 to 1977 he was a photo reporter for 'Stern'. His numerous travels took him to many countries on all continents. In 1977 he joined the photographer group VISUM, from which he separated again in 1982 to work completely independently from then on. His reportages and reports appeared in many magazines, among them life, Fortune, Der Spiegel, SZ-Magazin and especially Zeit-Magazin and Art. Since 1985 he has also published his work in book form. His photographs have been shown in numerous exhibitions, his project 'totenstill' for example in 25 places worldwide, among them Berlin, New York, Warsaw and Santiago de Chile. Since 1998 he was professor of photography at the Muthesius Hochschule in Kiel. He lived in Buxtehude near Hamburg. Dirk REINARTZ died on 27.3.2004 during a trip in Berlin.
