About the British photographer, Don McCULLIN (b. 1935, in London).

Donald McCULLIN is best known for his war photography and images of urban unrest. His career began in 1959 photographing marginalized social groups. After initial assignments at the Observer and other newspapers, he worked as a foreign correspondent for the Sunday Times between 1966 and 1984, primarily documenting ecological and man-made disasters such as war, including in Biafra in 1968, and epidemics. His highly critical reporting on the Vietnam War and the Northern Ireland conflict has a particularly high value as a historical source. In later years, he took photographs of landscapes and still lifes, as well as commissioned portraits. Don McCULLIN is the author of a number of books, and lives in Somerset.
