About German photographer, Joachim BROHM (b. 1955, in Dülken)

Joachim BROHM is one of the first German photographers to explore the medium of color photography in an artistic context as early as the late 1970s. He studied visual communication and photography at the University of Essen from 1977 to 1983, as a lecturer Michael SCHMIDT had a great influence on him, subsequently he also participated in the activities of the 'Workshop for Photography' founded by Schmidt in Berlin-Kreuzberg. After receiving his diploma in 1983, he went to Ohio State University for a year on a Fulbright scholarship and deepened his studies with Allan SEKULA and Jonathan Green. From 1984 he worked as a freelance photographer, and also as a lecturer in photography at the Universities of Applied Sciences in Bielefeld and Dortmund, among others. In 1990, a project of the Siemens Cultural Program enabled him to spend an intensive working period in Berlin. At the same time, the publication "Industriezeit" was published to accompany his first solo exhibition at the Museum Folkwang Essen. His extensive work has been shown in solo exhibitions at the Fotoforum Bremen, the Spectrum Photogalerie Hannover, the Museum Folkwang, the Fotomuseum München and the Fotomuseum Winterthur, among others. Joachim BROHM has been a professor of photography at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig since 1993.
