Background information
The Autobahn: An asphalt carpet that covers more than 13,000 km over Germany, interfering with the landscape and at the same time linking the country. The autobahn is probably the most monumental structure built by the Germans and part of their cultural identity and history. It stands for the unconditional belief in the future of the post-war era, German engineering, travel and speeding without speed limits, but also for traffic jams, queues of trucks and mass accidents. Jörg BRÜGGEMANN's photographs could soon be read historically. After all, current mobility concepts are currently undergoing constant change and discussion. But the basic shape of the highway has remained largely unchanged for decades. For how much longer? Jörg BRÜGGEMANN shares his fascination and doubts through his pictures - they ask questions about the present and future of mobility. How meaningful, how sustainable is a gigantic infrastructure still, where unlimited growth and individual freedom on the one hand and ecology and the common good on the other hand meet in visible contradiction every day?
