About the Japanese photographer, Momo OKABE (b.1981)

Momo OKABE lived in France until the age of four. After graduating from the Photography Department of Nihon University College of Art, she won the Excellence Award at the 8th Canon New Cosmos of Photography Exhibition in 1999, selected by Nobuyoshi ARAKI. In 2002, she won a prize at the 19th Hitotsubo Exhibition (Guardian Garden), and in 2009, she won the Jury Prize at the Epson Color Imaging Contest, selected by Masafumi SANAI. She has already published three photo volumes. Her first photo book, 'Dildo', was selected by Hisako Motoo as one of the Best Books by Photo-eye, the most prestigious photography gallery in the U.S.. The following book, 'Bible' also won the Grand Prix of the 'Paul Huf Award', a photo award organized by Foam in the Netherlands. She was featured in the June 2014 issue of the British culture magazine Dazed and Confused as a photographer to watch, and is one of the most promising photographers in the world. Momo OKABE is based in Tokyo.

In her rare, out-of-print volume 'Dildo', published in a very limited edition of only 55 copies, Japanese photographer Momo OKABE accompanies her friends in their transformation from woman to man. She developed her intimate, artistic photographs by hand.
