Background information
The Swiss photographer Beat STREULI has been travelling the world for 30 years, photographing people in urban environments with great consistency. His motifs oscillate between privacy and anonymity, with the person as a constant and the city as a variable. Beat STREULI is not only interested in the inhabitants, he also deals with the city as a social and architectural concept. In doing so, he does not only work in global metropolises, but also moves in suburbs, smaller cities and agglomerations. Beat STREULI's photographs paint a picture of the urban present and make an artistic as well as documentary contribution to the current discourse on urban, multicultural societies.

With his new artist book 'The Fabric of Reality' Beat STREULI draws for the first time the path through his oeuvre. After the photo book 'Public Works' (2012), which gave an overview of his work from 1996-2011, the artist now combines his photographs, installations and video stills of the past seven years with early black-and-white photo series. Closely following each other, partly overlapping, his works create a visually rhythmic image of his oeuvre, which is characterized by conceptual sobriety in observation.
