Background information
"In his photo series 'A40' - his final project at the FH Dortmund - photographer Sebastian MÖLLEKEN documents the 'lifeline' of the Ruhr area, which connects almost all major cities such as Dortmund, Gelsenkirchen, Bochum, Oberhausen and Duisburg along a stretch of more than 90 kilometers. The A40 runs past residential buildings, office facades, villages and pastures. It is in a state of constant change and is one of the busiest roads in Germany, with over 100,000 vehicles per day in sections.Content
In the photo book 'A40' Sebastian MÖLLEKEN shows the landscapes bordering the highway as well as the people who spend their lives at the edge of the 'Ruhrschnellweg'. They are the most diverse types and most bizarre places. The interplay of landscape and portrait shots creates an overall picture that reflects the life shaped by the A40. The work shows the relationship of the portrayed to their surroundings and reveals a Ruhr area that is not gray, but rather diverse and colorful."
